Dr. Ninon Dubourg is currently a postdoctoral researcher funded by an Alexander von Humboldt<\/a> research fellowship and hosted at the University of Cologne. She holds a PhD from the University of Paris-Cit\u00e9, France, and was for 3 years a postdoctoral fellow funded by the FRS-FNRS in Li\u00e8ge (Belgium, 2021-2024). Her research focuses on old age and physical and mental disabilities in both secular and clerical contexts in medieval Europe (12th\u201316th centuries).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her PhD and first postdoc were based on the petition and papal letters conserved in the Papal Archives of the Vatican Apostolic Archives and the Apostolic Penitentiary. She shows that this kind of ecclesiastical document offers us significant insight into the Church\u2019s comprehension of the social experience of disability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her Alexander von Humboldt project is entitled: “Aging in Li\u00e8ge \u2013 A History of Old Age at a City Scale (15th-16th centuries) (AGING).” The AGING project aims to contribute to new developments in the history of aging and retirement by analyzing the archives of five institutions in the city of Li\u00e8ge involved in elderly care. It examines the organization of these institutions and their financial records of income and expenses, with the aim of writing an economic, urban, and social history of the late medieval \/ early modern retirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She manages the research blog History of Disease, Disability & Medicine in Medieval Europe<\/a><\/em> and has been co-organizing the EHESS monthly seminar “Construire une histoire du handicap et de la surdit\u00e9 au travers des si\u00e8cles<\/a>” since 2021, alongside Fabrice Bertin (EHESS) and Gildas Br\u00e9gain (Rennes, CNRS) (program 2024\/2025<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is also a member of the \u201cR\u00e9seau jeunes chercheurs Handicap(s) et Soci\u00e9t\u00e9s, Programme Handicaps et Soci\u00e9t\u00e9s\u201d \u2013 EHESS, Paris (http:\/\/phs.ehess.fr\/jeune-chercheurs\/annuaire-jeunes-chercheurs\/<\/a>) and foreign associate of the research network \u201cHomo Debilis\u201d at the Bremen University (http:\/\/www.homo-debilis.de\/personen\/index-en.html<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
